Death of St. Sebastian by Fabre of 1789

This is a reproduction of Francois-Xavier Fabre’s "Death of Saint Sebastian". The legend of Sebastian became very popular throughout the Middle Ages, particularly after the 13th century due to Sebastian’s being the patron of victims of the plague which was ravishing almost all of europe from the fourteenth century.  Fabre was one of the most talented students of David and he died in 1832. This masterwork is housed in the Mussee Fabre in Montpellier, France.
