Cascading Water over Rocks, 2010

This a reproduction of “Cascading Water over Rocks” of 2010.  This is an attempt to capture the raging force of water forcefully flowing over rocks on its journey to the sea.  This rushing stream may date back in time to the age when Thera, as Santorini was known in Classical Times, was the center of the Atlantean civilization.  It is inspired by a recent visit to Santorini in the Aegean.

Air Castles by Maxfield Parrish, 1904

This is a reproduction of Maxfield Parrish’s “Air Castles” of 1905.  Parrish was a wonderful illustrator and artist who was born in 1870 Philadelphia.  He began as an illustrator and had many commissions.  He lived in New Hampshire and painted until he was 91 years old.  He died in 1966.  This painting is typical of his repeated theme of androgynous nudes depicted in fantastic landscapes.  The original painting is in a private collection.

Augusta Prima Porta, image by Troy Caperton, 2008

This beautiful example of Classical statuary was discovered on April 20, 1863.  When it was transported to Rome, it became a symbol of the newly created Kingdom of Italy and was a prime exhibit of the Mostra Augustea della Romanita, a celebration of the emperor’s 2000th birthday on September 23, 1938.  This representation of the statue is from my photograph from my recent trip to Rome. The ancient masterpiece was one of the world’s first efforts at propaganda in art, an attempt at portraying the radical Octavian in the guise of a traditional conservative Roman.
