Mona Lisa, La Gioconda, by Leonardo da Vinci, ca. 1519
Da Vinci / Inspirational prints / Italian / Paintings (Reproductions) - 1 year ago - troycapc
This is a reproduction of “Mona Lisa” by Leonardo da Vinci between 1503 and 1519. This is probably the most recognizable painting of all time. It was created in Florence in the High Renaissance and is probably an enigmatic portrait of Lisa del Giocondo. The subtlety of the modeling of forms and the atmospheric illusions were elements never before seen in painting. The painting was commissioned for the lady’s new home and to celebrate the birth of her second son and these facts were not discovered until 2005 by scholars at the University of Heidelberg. The painting is 30 inches by 21 inches and is housed in the Musee de Louvre, Paris.

Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci, 1498
Da Vinci / Inspirational prints / Italian / Paintings (Reproductions) - 1 year ago - troycapc
This is a reproduction of the Master’s Last Supper in a restored state. The restoration was done in the 16th century and is an oil painting. It captures many details which have been lost in the original fresco at the convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan. The fresco was originally commissioned by Ludovico Sforza, duke of Milan, and was completed in 1498. The work is not a true fresco in that Leonardo sealed the stone with resin and gesso and then painted in tempera. Within a few years the work began to deteriorate due to the instabilities of the artist’s formula. Restorations have been attempted since 1726. This early reproduction of the masterpiece captures many details which have been subsequently been lost in the original. This reproduction is housed in the Da Vinci Museum in Tongerlo, Belgium.
