Dutch / Paintings (Reproductions) - 1 year ago - troycapc
This is a reproduction of “Voordracht over de anatomie door Andreas Bonn voor het departement der Tekenkunde van Felix Meritis” of 1792 by Adriaan de Lelie. This artist from Tilburg was self-taught and left for Antwerp in 1773 with his friend Cornelis van Spaendonck. Aged eighteen upon this move, he painted historical works and portraits in Antwerp. He moved to Amsterdam ten years later and became the darling of enlightened and progressive circles. The attention his works garnered are a precursor to the popular art genre, the Conversation Piece. In this ground-breaking painting, Lelie depicts the famous anatomy lectures of Dr. Andras Bonn in Amsterdam. This masterpiece measures 100 cm wide and 81 cm high. It is in the Amsterdam Museum in Amsterdam.
