Der Einspanner, Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, 1880

This a reproduction of Henri Toulouse-Lautrec’s 1880 masterpiece “Der Einspanner” or “The One-horse Carriage” of 1880. This is one of Toulouse-Lautrec’s earliest paintings. He was brought back to his birthplace of Albi from Paris when he was eleven to treat a growing list of congenital conditions. At 13 and 14 respectively his legs were broken and they did not heal correctly or grow further. Restricted from many activities by his unusual lack of height, Toulouse-Lautrec dedicated himself to his art and become one of the most recognizable artists of the late Nineteenth Century. He died on September 9, 1901. This masterpiece measures 27 x 35 centimeters and is in the Musee Toulouse-Lautrec in Albi, France.

This a reproduction of Henri Toulouse-Lautrec’s 1882 masterpiece, “Le Jeune Routy a Celeyran” or “The Young Routy at Celeyran” in English. This is one of Toulouse-Lautrec’s earliest paintings and portrays a young workman at the artist’s mother’s estate at Celeyran. He was brought back to his birthplace of Albi from Paris when he was eleven to treat a growing list of congenital conditions. The Death of Ajax by Henri Serrur, 1820

A reproduction of the classic painting by the French Neo-classical great, Henri Auguste Calixte Cesar Serrur. It was painted in 1820 when the artist was twenty-six years old. He died in 1865. The story of the death of Ajax is not related in the Iliad and is motivated by the hero’s shame at having lost the argument over the armor of Patroklos which he lost to Odysseus. Ajax felt cheated by the gods whom he cursed before killing himself. He was worshiped as a hero in his native Salamis and at Athens.

Snow in New York by Robert Henri, 1902

A reproduction of “Snow in New York” of 1902 by Robert Henri. This is a masterpiece of the leading figure of the Ashcan school of Art. He began studying at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 1886 when he was nineteen years old. He studied in France and Italy and began teaching in Philadelphia in 1892. He married six years later and continued to paint in Philadelphia and Paris. He began teaching at the New York School of Art in 1902, the year in which this painting was completed. In 1908 he organized a showing of art by himself and seven others which became known as the eight and was later considered the founding of the "Ashcan" school. He continued to paint and attract significant following of clients and painters. He was chosen one of the top three living American artists by the Arts Council of New York in 1929, the year of his death. The painting is currently at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D. C.
