The Gulf Stream

American / Paintings (Reproductions) / Sea Scapes / Winslow Homer - 1 year ago - troycapc

The Gulf Stream

This is a reproduction of Winslow Homer’s Masterpiece, “The Gulf Stream”of 1899.  This magnificent work was inspired by Jonathan Copeley’s Watson and the Shark of 1778.  But Homer much more accurately depicts the body of a shark and presents a more desperate environment.  The victim of the Gulf Stream is tied to the boat the mast of which has been broken.  There are dangerous waves and a water-spout on the horizon.  The Victim is utterly alone though on the far horizon a distant ship appears.  The painting is 28.125 inches high and 49.125 inches wide.  The masterpiece is currently at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

The Island of Rhodes by Ivan Constantinovich Aivazovsky, 1861

This is a reproduction of “The Island of Rhodes” of 1861 by Ivan Constantinovich Aivazovsky.   This is wonderful example of Aivazovsky’s coastal combinations of seascape and landscape and is a wonderful representation of this gem of the Aegean as the sun is near the horizon.  Seascapes constitute more than half of his works.  This Armenian artist died in 1900 at the age of eighty-three years.  He burst upon the international scene in 1842 and was elected a member of five European Academies.  He received the French Legion of Honor and left more than 6000 works by the time of his death.  This masterpiece is in the Aivazovsky Art Gallery in his natal city, Theodosia in the Crimea, Ukraine.

Stormy Sunrise of 2010

Stormy Sunrise of 2010

This is a reproduction of “Stormy Sunrise” of 2010. This is an effort to catch the feelings engendered by the dawning of a day that appears to be full of dreaded storms of life. The prior day seems to have troubles mounting with ever greater intensity and they loom over the morning, even from the moment the sun peaks over the horizon. This image of the ocean shore at day-break with torrents of rain in the background coming out of billowing clouds in the midst of which, however, one spies sun breaking through.
