Architectural Veduta, attributed to Francesco di Giorgio Martini

This is a reproduction of “Architectural Veduta” of about 1490 attributed to Francesco di Giorgio Martini.  Martini was an Renaissance Italian artist of the School of Siena, his native city.  He was a sculptor and painter and was known for his visionary theories of Architecture.  He created all of the fortifications for the Duke of Urbino and ended his career as the architect in charge of the Duomo di Siena.  He died in Sienna in 1501 at the age of sixty-two.  This masterpiece is an architectural study of the artist’s ideas towards the building of an ideal city.  It is in the Gemaldegalerie,Kaiser Friedrich Museums, Berlin.
