Der Hintersee bei Berchtesgaden, Johann Nepomuk Ott

This is a reproduction of “The Hintersee by Berchtesgaden” of 1826 by Johann Nepomuk Ott.  This masterpiece was produced by the Bavarian master when he was twenty-two years old.  The beautiful Bavarian lake covers sixteen hectares near Ramsau.  Its banks have high mountains to the west , meadows to the south and woods to the north and east.  On calm days the neighboring mountain peaks are reflected on the still lake surface and this has drawn artists since early in the Nineteenth Century.  Ott was one of the first.  The artist died in 1870 and the original painting is 42 cm wide and 36 cm high.

"Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows" by John Constable, 1831

A reproduction of a work by John Constable, “Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows” of 1831. The artist was a native of Suffolk who died in 1837 at the age of sixty-one years. He is one of the greatest English landscape painters but did not become recognized until he was elected to the Royal Academy at the age of fifty-two. He struggled financially until then with his works selling better in France than in England. This s one of his last major works and displays the great cathedral from the northwest; the rainbow is a late addition to the painting which is in a private collection.
