Magdalena Bay, 1840, Francois Biard
French / Landscape / Paintings (Reproductions) - 1 year ago - troycapc
This is a reproduction of “Magdalena Bay” of 1840 by Auguste Francois Biard. This wonderful depiction of the wild northwest shore of Spitzbergen was painted when the artist was forty-two years old. He died in 1882 and was a native of Lyon. He was a prominent abolitionist and traveled throughout the world making sketches from which he later produced wonderful paintings. Magdalena Bay is known world-wide for its spectacular juxtaposition of the sea, glacial congestion and riotous mountain peaks rising straight out of the sea. It remains one of the most beautiful and exotic places to visit in the world. This masterpiece is in the Louvre, Paris.

The Wave by Gustave Courbet, 1870
French / Landscape / Paintings (Reproductions) - 1 year ago - troycapc
Courbet painted this when he was fifty years old and it is a wonderful example of his Realist style in which he roughly and intimate portrayed the harshness of experience and the scenes which he encountered in life. The painting has been interpreted as an escape from the terrors of the Industrial Revolution and an embracing of the power of Nature. Courbet created the work in a cottage on the Norman coast in which he lost himself in the creative process. Within a year, he was imprisoned for six months during the Paris Comune of 1871 and afterwards went into a self-imposed exile to Switzerland where he died on December 31, 1877. This masterpiece is in the Musee d’Orsay in Paris.

Stormy Sunrise of 2010
American / Caperton / Landscape / Paintings (Reproductions) - 1 year ago - troycapc
This is a reproduction of “Stormy Sunrise” of 2010. This is an effort to catch the feelings engendered by the dawning of a day that appears to be full of dreaded storms of life. The prior day seems to have troubles mounting with ever greater intensity and they loom over the morning, even from the moment the sun peaks over the horizon. This image of the ocean shore at day-break with torrents of rain in the background coming out of billowing clouds in the midst of which, however, one spies sun breaking through.
