Der Einspanner, Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, 1880

This a reproduction of Henri Toulouse-Lautrec’s 1880 masterpiece “Der Einspanner” or “The One-horse Carriage” of 1880.  This is one of Toulouse-Lautrec’s earliest paintings.  He was brought back to his birthplace of Albi from Paris when he was eleven to treat a growing list of congenital conditions.  At 13 and 14 respectively his legs were broken and they did not heal correctly or grow further.  Restricted from many activities by his unusual lack of height, Toulouse-Lautrec dedicated himself to his art and become one of the most recognizable artists of the late Nineteenth Century.  He died on September 9, 1901. This masterpiece measures 27 x 35 centimeters and is in the Musee Toulouse-Lautrec in Albi, France.
